Your review Nikkor 85mm 3.5?
I'm thinking of buying the Nikon 85 mm 3.5 as a lens for use as a ride for portrait and macro work. Am trying to decide between this lens and the Tokina 100mm. The reason I'm leaning towards the Nikon is $ 100 cheaper and has VR that I will like it for portraits. Should I seek a compromise between the macro and portraits or two separate lenses should I get? I still I have my Nikkor 50mm 1.8 that has served me well in the past portraits. Note that I'm not looking to do serious work and not looking to spend over $ 500 or less. Has anyone used any of these lenses? Thanks for your help! I am currently using a d80 and I'm in Canada so the Nikon is about $ 450 and the Tokina is $ 570 – I know that B & H in the states is only $ 399
If you connect a camera lens of a trimmed sensor D3100 or D7000 as the AF-S Nikkor 60 mm f/2.8 would be a better macro / portrait lens. The 85 mm is a bit long for take pictures in a camera. I suggest you go to a camera store and try both the 60 mm f/2.5 85 mm f/2.8 and the camera. See for yourself that gives you the best depth field you may want to take portraits. Since you still have the "portrait" of 50 mm, 85 mm may be what you need
