What do the numbers on a camera lens?

Consider this: Nikon 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED AF-S DX VR Nikkor details I read that the F-stops are 3.5-22/5.6-36 .. I'm confused … Please clarify

Changes in the opening with the zoom setting. In the bottom of the zoom, maximum aperture is f 3.5. At the highest zoom, the maximum aperture is f 5.6. F3.5-22 is the opening range of 16 mm. 5.6-36 aperture range is 85 mm. These can all varied by changing the settings of the zoom.
