28-85mm nikkor
AF Nikkor 28-85mm 1:3.5-4.5?

New film camera. When the lens is extended, I get wide field as opposed to a digital camera. Is it this normal? So basically I have no zoom.

There is a crop factor of 1.5 in Nikon digital cameras that APSC size sensor (Nikon also we frame sensor cameras.) So if you have been using digital field of view of the lens was the same as a lens that is 1.5 times. The 28-85 which resulted in APSC digital camera field of view of 42 to 127 (or 128 as actually 127.5) mm lens on a full frame 35 mm film camera. So yes you get a wider viewing angle using this lens on a full frame rather than the zoom at the top. this is normal. However, it should still be able to see some zoom ranges from one to another. For the same amount of zoom lens of the camera should be in the range above what we saw with the crop factor. The Nikkor 24-120 3.5-5.6 lens is a return that covers the range that were used to seeing on the camera c APS and a little above and a little more on a full frame camera. To 85 is not really considered a wide angle full frame camera. A 50 mm lens is considered "normal" field of view and 85 falls in the range telephoto short.
