How about a "nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6G AF Zoom-Nikkor lens powerful" for my Nikon D40? I'm new at this and please help me in this choice. I found this a good price for online purchases. Do you think this is good?
Yes that would be a good starter telephoto lens. However, since they have a D40, you will have to manually focus. You probably will not like. The D40 not have the autofocus motor in the body as the other Nikon cameras that do (like the D90, D300, D700, D3, etc.) You're better off getting any target which is AF-S. Instead, save a little more and you get the Nikon AF-S VR-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED Zoom. It will autofocus on the D40. Another goal is worth look at is the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED. You do not have the reach of 70-300mm, but not hard. There is also a version of it in virtual reality. Personally, I like the AF-S VR f / 2.8 G Zoom-Nikkor 70-200mm IF-ED the best, but that is a goal of top quality.
