I need an answer from a professional photographer?
If I buy a used nikkor lens 85 mm f/1.4 AS-I for my Nikon D3100 will I have a problem with it? I don’t mind the manual focus because normally I like to use manual vs. auto. I don’t know much about photography or lenses. I’m just looking for a great lens that will take great portraits with blur back ground. I just want to make sure that this lens will give great result if I use it on manual focus.
For clarity, is the lens a 85 mm f/1.4 AI-s?. If so you really need a D7000 or better to use that lens.
ONLY AF-S lenses auto-focus with your D3100.

The best portrait lens for your D3100 is actually the AF-S 50 mm f/1.4, a medium telephoto lens when attached to your D3100. The 85 mm is designed for use with full frame cameras like a 35 mm Nikon or D3/D700 series digital camera
NOTE: I use my old Nikkor 105 mm f.2.5 does not show any colour shift at all.
