Opinions on Nikon DSLR D3000 for the update point and shoot camera?

Would you suggest a digital SLR camera nikon d3000 for my first digital SLR? Why / why not? I'm definitely willing to learn to use a digital SLR camera … the review of this camera I read said it is very easy for a first timer to use however they do also consider a short course. I be "improved" a Sony Cybershot DSC-T700

The D3000 is an ideal camera for digital SLR beginners that will serve you well for many years of photography digital. This has nearly all the features of more advanced and more expensive Nikon cameras. It is very easy to use and take brilliant photos. As with any new skill will take time to learn how to make the most of it – but doing a photography course is an excellent idea for you using your new SLR with skill and confidence. If your budget is tight you might consider buying a second hand Nikon D60. This is essentially exactly the same camera as the D3000, but lacks the "guide mode", which is not really useful anyway once you have passed the beginner stage – that will do it quickly with a course of photography. Then you can use the rest of its budget to buy additional lenses or other equipment on the road if you feel you need. Remember, the body of the chamber plays a rather small in the photograph – the lenses and lighting are much more important – but the most important part is what you do with the camera! Whatever you do, you will get many years of enjoyment from your DSLR.
