Nikon EN-EL11 battery types
The Nikon Coolpix S550 is compatible with the rechargeable Li-on of the EN-EL11 battery. I have a total of three EN-EL11 battery for my Nikon Coolpix S550 … one camera, one in his pocket and another at home in the Nikon MH-61 Battery Charger.
Nikon did not include a battery charger with EN-EL11 Nikon Coolpix S550. They require you to connect the P100 to a wall outlet using the included AC adapter. This seems a bit meaningless to me, so I went ahead and got the Nikon MH-61 Battery Charger for Coolpix S550 can take me wherever I go and still have a battery charge at home.
Unfortunately, the Coolpix S550 is NOT compatible with AA or AAA batteries. If you're on vacation and your battery dies, you must wait 3 hours and 30 minutes from the EN-EL11 to load … that is why I recommend at least one extra-EL5 battery as a backup.

Use Body Heat – If you're shooting at temperatures below 41 degrees, the battery performance will drop significantly. If you have an extra set of rechargeable AA batteries, put them in your pocket so you are against your body. The heat will help the batteries have a burden.

For daily use, you may not need an extra battery. If you're going out on a journey all day with his family (beach, park, etc …), then I recommend buying an extra battery.
