Is it possible to achieve a good blurred background with the Nikon Coolpix S8000?
Does anyone have any experience with this camera? Is it easy to get a good blurred background with this camera? It doesn’t have any manual aperture controls, so does that make it more difficult? I’m sort of an amateur photographer and I’m thinking about buying this camera.
All compact cameras that use tiny image sensors for the most part cannot have backgrounds that are super out of focus. The image sensors are too small, same for the aperture. You can get a mild effect in certain conditions, but it’s not the real deal. It’s not really a matter of controls so regardless of what brand or model you buy, it’s just difficult to do.
You’ll need a camera with a large image sensor and a lager aperture (smaller f/stop number). So you’ll need a dSLR. Your other option is a large image sensor compact, like Sony’s NEX 3 or 5. With the NEX 3 coming in a 549 with lens, that’s a sweet spot.
