Sd1200Is Canon – Sd1200Is Compared To SD750 and SD550
I recently purchased this laptop as a camera too small to be readily available and serve as a security camera. I can compare directly to the SD 550 and SD 750 also charges itself (although the 550th has already been transmitted to the daughter of my 7 years old), and the Rebel XSI. The SD 750 is an excellent camera that has served our family well, why do you ask, I buy the Canon SD1200IS? I bought this mainly for two reasons which also apply to you. First, the IS feature allows much-more-watchable video and secondly, the battery is the same type used on my Canon D10 (camera waterproof) – this is very useful in terms of carrying around less bulky chargers. The relatively low price for a camera of this quality was also a factor.
I was a bit worried about buying this camera as a few here noted blur, with some later revisions pointing that led to the low resolution camera. As for my unit, it was higher resolution (as did the SD 550 and SD 750 to my memory). I wonder if some respondents somehow has a refurbished model because, as I can tell the camera firmware automatically adjusts to the highest resolution for Canon cameras in general.
To check the quality of the picture, I made a direct comparison between the Canon SD 750 and taking pictures identical SD1200IS what happens to me as a 'still life "- some toys on a sofa with detailed pattern in semi-dark conditions that require flash. Zoom close in shots, it seems that the flash is a bit brighter on the target = "_self" title = "Canon SD1200IS"> Canon SD1200IS detail but is otherwise identical. As the SD 750 is a camera of 7.1 MP and it is 10 MP, one would expect (rightly) high resolution of this camera, but this ends up being an excellent example of the myth of "megapixels."
While companies have seized on increasing megapixels as a matter Marketing really there are diminishing returns as one goes up because of other constraints, including sensor noise and above all the limits imposed by optics. You can not get blood from a stone and can not obtain increasingly higher resolution images of small camera lenses as this. That is not to that the images are bad, just not be compared to images of say a Canon DSLR Rebel XSi or a Nikon D300 – but certainly not a criticism as the camera is not intended as a substitute for a DSLR.
Video quality is similar to the SD 750 which I doubt is even "improve stability of shots and allow them to be better mixed with images of a dedicated video camera. Interestingly, though you never intend to use this type of camera video, inevitably the time will come when all this is that it is available, and indeed children happens quite frequently! The best camera for shooting or video is, of course, that really is with you in time!
The camera controls seem second nature, if you've used Canons in the past. The door to the battery / SD compartment looks a little weaker than my previous models, but is working well so far.
In summary, this is a highly portable compact camera that makes the job of serving as the camera always available and can also serve as backup to a DSLR or higher other quality camera. I'm very happy with our purchase and highly recommend this camera. (Note that in late February 2010, it is very likely that new models will announced at a large trade fair)
