lens hood nikkor 18 55
Would this Lens hood work with this Kit lens?

I got a nikon d3000 a week ago and i want to get a lens, but i dont know a single thing about what kind of hoods work for what type of lens. I want to get a petal lens hood. I found a lens on Amazon and i am curious if this will work

The current LENS i have is a
18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens

And the lens hood i want to buy is

http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Camera-18-55mm-55-200mm-Lenses/dp/B003JCHQ08/ref=sr_1_54?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1273426987&sr=1-54

Would these two work with each other?

ty!

According to Nikon the hood you need is the HB-45:

click the accessories tab.

In general hoods need to be made quite precisely for the lens if you want maximum protection from flare or loss of contrast and to avoid vignetting at the same time.
It is best to buy the original manufacturers offering.

No, the so-called “petal-shaped lens hood” of the type you described wouldn’t work well with the kit lens. The reason for this is simple: the 18-55 lens rotates clockwise or counter-clockwise as you zoom in our out. As it rotates, the petal lens hood would rotate with it (and the petal hood is not designed to rotate) so sometimes you’d find that along with the picture you’d taken you also caught a bit of a lens in the image, depending on the position of the lens (how far you zoomed). And you don’t want to be taking pictures of your lens hoods, do you?
The petal lens hood looks very good, true, but you want to go with the regular lens hood recommended for the kit lens that goes with nikon d3000.
