nikkor 18-200 vr
The image quality? Nikon D50 with 18-55 (lens) + 55-200VR or Nikkor 18-200mm? Quality …?

… is the main concern. It currently has the goal of the kit, but I'm thinking of dropping out of $ 700 on Amazon to get the 18-200. The convenience factor of this objective is important, but if the images product are lower than the kit lens + 55-200 VR, I just carry 2 lenses … I have a Lowepro bag with plenty of space. Anyone with experience?

I use a D-80 and have both the kit lens (18-55mm and 55-200mm – I got them originally with a D50 before upgrading). I also have both the 55-200mm VR and 18-200mm VRII. I can not use the kit lens more. I use the 18-200mm VRII as walking and hardly take it off (except for the interior, low light shots with the 50mm 1.4 prime). I have the 55-200mm VR as a backup. The two VR lenses get better quality than the kit lenses. Of course, also are much more expensive. At some point I'll probably invest in 70-300mm VRII (linked below) and remove the 55-200 VR. The only downside to the 18-200 VRII is that it is much bigger and heavier than the goal of the kit. You may want to look at one in the flesh to see if you want to deal with the volume and weight. The 55-200 VR is smaller and lighter. If you only plan to have 2 glasses and already have the 18-55 kit lens or the 55-200 VR or 18-200 VRII work. One of them is more versatile and heavier, is cheaper and lighter. NOTE: Shop around with PriceGrabber, and verifying the Amazon. The prices of these lenses can vary for a hundred dollars or more, depending on who buys from (usually Abe's of Maine purchase or 42nd Street Photo for the best price, just be careful with the cheaper units gray market). Nikon is also running a discount of $ 100.00 on the lenses if you buy an extra with a DSLR so it might be a good time for improving border on the D50. D80s are have been reduced to around $ 850.00 and there is still demand a trade D50s used to not be too outrageous. I sold my D50 used for price half of that of the D80 and that was when it was selling more than $ 900.
