Which lens should I get?

I plan to buy a lens to photograph sports, so I need one good for action shots.
I would love to be able to afford an AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 IF-ED, but it’s nearly 2k price tag is not within my budget. I was also looking into a 70-300mm, but I’m not sure.
I need helllpppp.
I would like to stick to Nikkor lenses, because they always seem to work out.

I had the same choice to make a long time ago. What kind of sports are you choosing?

I choose the 70-300 for a few reasons
- price
- i dont use the 2.8 much. i primarily shoot in outdoors during the day so i dont worry about fast speeds. this was the key factor that made the decision much easier. In the odd occasion i need the speed, you may choose to rent one or say to your self, i missed this opportunity, but how much have i saved for my childrens colege fund.

The real reasons to get the 2.8
- you plan to use f/2.8
- you need a more rugged build because te lens is going to be thrashed. I.e. Mounted on a skaeboard to get some unique perapective shots. Ive seen this done with some wide angle lebses not the 70-200. but the same principal applies. Rugged durribility. I.e. Snow snowboarding, mountain biking
