The 2 lenses that your father will work with your D700. The manual will approach the course and some of the characteristics of flash metering and exposure modes as the program is not available. The D700 user manual is not currently available at www.nikonusa.com yet so I'll send the link D3 so you can download the manual and you can read about the approach manual and the game needed to use Ai Nikon lenses that showed here.
