recommend lens for shooting landscapes please?
Hello..I have a nikon d3100, a 18-55 mm nikkor vr lens and a 55-300 nikkor vr lens… I am looking for a lens (I think wide angle) that will allow me to take better landscape shots that have some “drama” ( I shoot a lot of seascapes and wide open spaces)… I am on a budget of course, and a novice.. so I need advice.. some people have mentioned tokina wide angle lenses to me, what do you think? And is vr important with wide angle lenses, or is tripod use assumed?

Buying a good lens with a wider angle than 18mm costs serious money, and I would advise you to sharpen your vision and try to compose good pics within the lens range that you already have. Think about stitching a couple of ‘panned’ pics together in software – make sure there is a good overlap when taking. I find that most of my best landscapes are taken with tele lenses, generally in the range of 80 to 120mm, with the occasional one taken on a 300mm.
