What's better, the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G VR Lens and AF-S VR 70-300 f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED?
I am considering buying a zoom lens for my Nikon D100. Which of the two lenses is better. Do not worry about costs as I'm hoping I can get second hand 70-300mm on eBay at a price. I know the 70-300mm is higher but also more expensive, so you probably have a better build quality, etc. Also, it seems more convenient for I have the focus knob on the back of the lens, and has a manual / hybrid car. I would like a lens that works well with future camera I buy. However, although the D7000 and D300S (away from my budget) seem to have DX sensors, so I guess I do not need support for FX. Or the most prolific FX standard in the near future?
The 70-300mm AF-S VR has a couple of significant advantages over the 55-300mm. It is an FX lens, which can benefit in the future, more Nikon holds a consumer level DSLR FX. More importantly, autofocus faster than the 55-300mm. If you are shooting sports or anything where the subjects are in constant motion, breaking the agreement.
