change in Canon mount lenses?

I just bought a Canon EOS Rebel T2 Goodwill $ 50. It works and everything works fine. I am very disappointed that my old Canon lenses do not fit because Canon has changed the size of the lens mount. Most, if not all interchangeable Nikkor lenses, even between 35mm and digital? Why could not this canonical figure? It's not that I'm "slow in adoption." I'm a fan of Nikon's happened to have a Canon 35-year-N1 with several lenses as a fisheye. So far, I have had no reason to deal with my current Canon lenses into something else. But I'm not here to pick a fight for Canon vs. Nikon. I was just curious.

It was a necessary change to Canon. In the beginning of their camera business, which competed with Pentax, Minolta, Konica and other companies trying to capture the market of fans. At that time Leica and Nikon were the choice of professionals. Canon decided to enter the professional level camera with F1 and the rest is history. Nikon was working on the introduction of auto focus cameras with the F3 and the present Canon mount can not support what we now consider the standard autofocus lens. Nikon, either by design or just sheer luck they were able to improve their goals in the series F to provide state of the lens of modern art in the 35 and most digital SLR cameras without any change in the basic assembly system established in the end of 1950. I use an old Nikkor 500mm made in the mid 70's on my D200 less than a year old. Now that is pretty amazing.
