which is better? AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D or?

Looking for one that can be used more commonly. Thanks! Also I am particularly concerned about the viewing angle. How I can determine it?

Unless you have a Nikon D90 AF 50mm f1.8G no autofocus. The D90 has a focus motor in the camera, the D40, D40x, D60, D3000, D5000 do not. You can do what the person proposed and the use of 18-55mm lens in 35mm and 50mm and view the exact angle of coverage. The 35 mm, of course, provide greater coverage of the same camera to subject distance 50 mm. If you go for the 50mm, I suggest AF-S 50mm f1.4. Its 2 / 3 of a stop faster than an f1.8 lens, which gives a brighter display that makes it easy to compose and focus in low light.
