Nikkor 55mm Macro Lens

Photography lens help?

I am relatively new to photography and own a Nikon D3100. At the moment I have the standard 18-55mm kit lens and a 50mm 1.8. I love the 50mm but the kit lens just doesn’t give me enough versatility. I am interested in replacing it with a Sigma 18-200mm 3.5-6.3. I know that the lens isn’t the fastest on the planet in terms of aperture but I mainly shoot outdoors and don’t really want to be carrying heavy lenses not to mention the fact that they are expensive (I am a student). Would this be a good decision to make? I intend to use it just as a general lens which will stay on my body when I am not shooting specific subjects such as portraits. The lens also claims to be ‘macro’ so again it provides a lot more versatility than the 18-55mm I currently have. I am a little worried that it isn’t made by Nikkor, does anyone have any experiences with Sigma? Thanks to all who help!

Sigma makes a good lens. I haven’t had any experience with it on a Nikon, but I have used them on Canon cameras and they work great.
