Nikkor lens or Sigma lens?
I have a nikon d40x. Is there a big difference between the Sigma lenses "for Nikon" and a Nikkor lens? I looking at the AF-S Zoom Nikkor ED 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G IF DX VR or Sigma Zoom Super Wide Angle 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Optical Stabilizer) Lens for Nikon SLR digital. There is a big difference in price – what about quality?
Both lenses are pretty good. Besides the price difference, the biggest differences are as follows: Sigma lenses tend to have slightly warmer cast to them, while Nikon scholars tend to be more neutral color. Quality: The Nikkor has better control Strict quality, while the sigmas are of good quality, but with greater variance. The best Sigma will equal the best of Nikon, but the average will not be until Sigma the average for the Nikon because the quality varies more with the Sigma. Therefore, you have to wait to get a good sample of the Sigma lens. Frankly, for most people, the variable is not the goal as much as knowledge and technology. An expert photographer will have a good shot with the Sigma, a poor is not going to get a good shot, even with the more expensive Nikon insurance. PS to get the Sigma HSM version.
