Tips to start the action sports photography.?

I would get to take the picture, but sitting in a studio in Tudor Under a photographer taking and older family portraits sounds too boring for me. Id like to get into action photography, and I decided to start with the sport not the stadium, such as skateboarding and bmx. I need all the advice and suggestions I can get. I do not even know where to start. I'm on a student / Part-time budget so you do not have much money to spare. I have the Nikon D40 starter kit, so they have the basic objective of 18-55mm. I'm thinking of buying more strong objective and I am considering Nikon 55-200mm f4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Zoom Nikkor Lens, is it good? Once again I have all phototaking advice I can get. Thanks. :) Aga

Look in the manual for the D40. It has some good advice on it and help you work out how all the bells and whistles on it. If you has done that already, then I apologize for repeating the obvious. > _ <I like to use the shutter priority on the camera (I have a Nikon D40 too: D). Have the opportunity to choose the shutter speed and aperture the camera chooses for you. Turn the dial to stop the S and use the dial next to the viewer to choose the shutter speed. The higher the number, the camera will be able to "freeze" the subject. If you are going to work with moving objects, which would use self-focus that I should not try to mess with manual focus. I usually use manual focus when I'm photographing stationary subjects. With sport and children when you can not predict what we will do, I use auto focus. The goal switch marked "A / M" to switch between auto focus and approach manual. Good luck!
