Nikon 55mm Nikkor lens VR-18: Can damage the lens by turning the focus ring in AUTO mode?
I'm a newbie in photography and recently bought nikon d3000 with kit 18-55mm VR Nikkor. I bought the UV filter as well and once it attaches to the lens that have become the focus ring when in AUTO mode. The focus moves the brink of cars, jumping and the position of position (has steps and is not smooth as in manual mode). It is hard to describe, but I was wondering if it can harm the lens to do that? I've also noticed that once you shoot the image immediately after the lens clicks (once again – hard to describe sound accurate) as if it were positioned immediately after the picture or something. Is it normal for VR Nikkor lenses? Thanks.
It can damage the AF by turning the focus ring when the lens set to autofocus. If you still focus properly, then no damage. Movements sudden are normal. That's probably click virtual reality, this is normal too. Try turning the VR on the lens and see if the click. It should then disappear.
