I'm about to buy a Nikon D200 and 18-200 VR Zoom Lens. I want a macro lens, so what you suggest?
I have been considering the Tamron 90mm or AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED. (But nothing on the side [cheaper during his professional life as well] would definitely be better!)
The 105 mm f/2.8 lens is magnificent … period. I would not touch a lens with third parties unless they gave it to me … and replace him when he died. The last really good, solid third lens was 70-210 mm Vivitar Series 1 Marco did in the 1970s. Vivitar was imported by Ponder and good control and had a very about the quality of the lens. Version 2 was built by Tokina (the people who brought the Hoya filters and produce some of the crystals found in the new Pentax lenses. Of course, by today's standards, the objective is flawed, but that time could not keep them on the shelves.
