any work teleconverter lens Nikon 55-300 VR?
Hello, yes, I know not ideal tele … but I can not spend money on a target longer (happy with the Nikkor 55-300 mm lens .. except when I take pictures of the moon!), I'm saving for a wide angle lens (landscape are mine, look at the Sigma 10-20 mm for that). My question is a tele-work in my long lens without losing focus? My main purpose for wanting to get to the moon already photos. obviously if you focus / sharpness is lost with teleconverters is a no go. Council? Thanks! PS my camera body nikon d3100
Any Nikon mount teleconverter works with any Nikon mount lens. (More or less, with few exceptions you will not have to worry about the D3100). The problem is the extreme exposure time. 300 mm side having an aperture of 5.6. Already a very slow target. Then teleconverters can make it more light you need to take the picture, which means a rate even slower shutter. You may end up with a 300mm, f/16 at the time to go around. I tend to read about EV13 of the moon, that means that you will shoot to 1 / 125 at ISO 400. Not bad, but not a great situation. What you can do is buy a birding club goal. These Opteka 3200mm f / 8 lens for $ 400. A teleconverter will run over $ 400 anyway. And it could end up with a 420mm focal length. 600 for $ 700. I think the price, the more scope and effectiveness of not having to Jerry-rig the existence of a tele outweigh any image quality a little better than you get from using the 55-300.
