Recommend a new lens for my Nikon D70?

Hi, I have a Nikon D70. I like my camera, but I feel that I am doing now is holding me back so I would like to buy a new one. The problem is I do not know what to buy! I know nothing about camera lenses, so I'm hoping that children will be able to shed some light for me. I currently own and use a 28 mm Nikkor AF-and until recently I have been satisfied.
