Pawn shops do not "buy" things. It lends money to take possession of objects that create they can sell, if necessary. They have things in a certain amount of time, allowing the person to return and rescue in order to repay the loan plus a fee. If the person does not return before the end of the agreement period, the lender can sell the item, pocketing whatever he can get to that over and over how much he borrowed.
