nikon 50mm f.18 or AF-S Nikkor 55-200mm VR?
I am an amateur in photography and I have a Nikon D40. I saved enough money to finally upgrade to a new lens and after doing some research, I’ve broken it down to the Nikon 50mm f.18 lens or the AF-S Nikkor 55-200mm VR.. Which lens is better? I know there’s a huge discrepancy, but seeing that I’m a beginner, which lens would be appropriate as a 2nd lens?
That depends on what lens you already have. I suspect a standard zoom in which case you’ve already got 50mm covered so the 55-200mm would seem the obvious choice.
If you want quality the 50mm prime will produce far better pictures. It is also small and light so you may find it easy to handle and carry around.
If you want a prime lens you might also consider the 35mm f2 which will give a more “normal” perspecive on a D40.
The 50mm 1.8 is easy to focus manually.
