SLR digital camera …. cleaning, how and when?
I'm trying to learn everything I can on my Nikon D80 as well. I just got it a few months ago and knew nothing about photography with a camera. I've been reading and learning. I wonder, when will we recommend cleaning the inside the chamber? Regularly? Once a month? Not unless you see spots in the images? And when cleaning is necessary, how you do, and what used? I have a lens cleaning kit with lens tissue, cleaning agent, and a small brush with an air bubble at the end of a … are those that use clean Inside? I do not think the camera needs cleaning, and I would be very cautious in fact do, but I think this information is really important to know and I do not seem quite to find a book that answers for me. Thanks.
First, check the User Guide for the Care and Cleaning of your camera. You'll find excellent guidance and suggestions. Although available sensor cleaning kits, I suggest leaving a camera technology that if and when needs done. Definitely not to use any liquid inside your camera. Have a professional do it. Avoid changing lenses, the wind conditions to minimize dust the possibility of getting dust on your sensor. Always hold the camera with the lens mount tilted downward. One thing you need to buy (if any) is a filter UV to protect the front lens element. Choose from Hoya, B + W, Singh-Ray, Tiffen, Heliopan. It is best to clean a filter lens, the more the filter will be cheaper to replace. ***** EDIT! ***** Please ignore the suggestion of "endangeredsavior" on the use of compressed air inside the chamber. This is a quick way to destroy or damage your camera shutter or the mirror or the sensor (or all three) and driving dust and sand in places within the camera where you can do real damage. Compressed air for inflating tires and basketball beach balls and air mattresses – not for cleaning camera.

Can you help? I have a Nikon CoolscanV Slide scanner which needs a service. The preview image can be blurred, the soft wear is telling me there is a hard ware fault. Have had this for five years, it probably just needs a service and clean up. Do you know of anyone I can contact to arrange this? Thank you. B Mills
