Quality? Nikon is a of the two big companies that make use of professional cameras. They are big in the business of the lens, not only making camera lenses, but lenses and industrial scientists. You have to be more specific about the Coolpix model you are considering. One of my digital SLR (the D100) is a 6 MP camera and I still use it professionally. The hot ticket now is to get a point and shoot camera with image stabilization (IS)
