What is the next goal should I get for my nikon digital slr?

Hi, novice photography enthusiast here. I have a Nikon digital SLR with 18-200 mm lens. I'm looking to get two goals with my taxes. My budget for each is around 500 or less. First, I need a micro lens to try to capture sharp / crisp insects flowers, etc. The second lens, I need something for my 18-200 mm does not seem to have little sufficient depth of field (blurred backgrounds). So I was thinking of getting a 50 mm f / 1.4 to blend funds and still have a sharp focus on the subject. Does 50 mm f / 1.4 to be good for this? O 18-200 mm lens because I have to get something else? Thanks! PS I have is a D300 camera, which is too much for camera me at the moment. I upgraded from a G-10 to D300, big step, but I'm glad that I have, I love the build quality as opposed to the rebels.

Well, I think that even a true macro lens can be used for all kinds of pictures, so maybe I should try for about a 50-60mm macro, as someone suggested, would also serve as a portrait lens. Not duplicate that with another first in a similar range as the 50/1.4 at this time. Rather get away different focus, for now. What you can do is either a 50/2.8 macro or 60mm macro and a second 100 mm macro. With these two and the 18-200, you must have a line of lenses good up to now. Then, when ready to buy again, look at a 85mm/1.4 50 mm f / 2.8: 60 mm f / 2.8 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/341927-USA/Sigma_346306_50mm_f_2_8_EX_DG . html: GREY/Nikon_1987_60mm_f_2_8D_Macro_Autofocus.html http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/66987- 100mm f / 2.8: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/393446-REG/Tokina_ATXAF100PRON_100mm_f_2_8_AT_X_M100.html 85 mm f / 1.4: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/108421-USA/Nikon_1933_Telephoto_AF_Nikkor_85mm. html If you replace your 18-200mm, it is not one of the best lenses is in this range would suggest 18-250mm Tamron macro. There is a 1:1 macro, not as a "true" macro, but it has pretty good macro shots and has coefficient Intellectual throughout its focal length. I have spoken with several shooters who use this lens for Sony / Minolta mount and say it's in your camera over time due to versatility. They get the shot that might have missed if they had to change lenses. It's $ 459 of B & H: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/536016-USA/Tamron_AF018NII_700_18_250mm_f_3_5_6_3_Di_II_LD.html do not forget the bell: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/573309-REG/Tamron_RHAFA018_DA18_Lens_Hood_for.html
