Camera Nikon D40 is the memory card is full, but says that the folder contains no images?

I was with my Nikon D40 which I work with a memory card SanDisk Extreme III. I usually connect the camera to your Mac via USB cable to view / copy / delete photos … without any problem. But while taking pictures on today I could only take 8 pictures before the camera said the card is full …??? But I had deleted all the previous photos through my Mac so that the card is "empty". Now I copied the last "8" images to my desktop and deleted … but the camera keeps saying "Card is full", while the folder says "No images? But I can not take more pictures …? I even tried putting the card memory directly to the printer that is showing that the card contains 396 images?! Any clue what is really happening or how to disable the card so permanent? Thanks for any help! :)

Mac makes little can be annoying. When you try to copy images from your camera or memory card, automatically "move" the computer ….. which means they are no longer visible on the card, but still there. You then have two options: 1) use a recovery program to restore the image on the card (this is important when you are planning on transferring these images to another device) or 2) format the card using the format function camera (NOT try formatting the card using the Mac … the initialization process is not compatible with Mac card and can make unusable) and start a new card.
