Is this a good camera.what SLR-type things I have to go i am starting SLR cameras
OK, first out, lets dispel some mis-information. All Nikon F-mount lenses fit the D40 and D40x. The newer lenses (AF-D, AF-G) lenses meters, but not autofocus. Only AF-S and Sigma HSM lenses autofocus with the D40. greater than the AF-D / G mount lenses, but not anything underground or autofocus. ANY SLR / DSLR is better than any point and shoot camera. I gross generalization, but 99% of real time. The Nikon D40 is a great camera, like all the Nikon and Canon entry level. People in the camera stores usually are paid on commission. Since the D40 is at the lower end of the Nikon sells on price is falling, it will try to increase your sales. See online reviews of the D40 and D40x and you will see a completely different story than the other poster indicates that takes into Wolf. Do an Internet search on "Nikon D40 reviews" and look at all the sites that have reviewed this designation body and the kit lens. I think you'll see what I mean.
