No underwater cases for digital cameras work? Is it worth it?

I'm considering buying an underwater housing for my Nikon digital camera. It's a bit expensive camera and want to know whether to take underwater with a cover that has any chance of damaging the camera. Where is the best place to buy a decent house? Has anyone had a bad experience with an underwater housing? I have really wanted to take my camera, but the diving i do not want to risk ruining the camera.

I have two boxes compact underwater digital SLR. I have my Nikon D100 in a Sea & Sea housing, with a compact flat port and extension ring. I have a sea of strobe YS110a Sea. You will need additional flash (s) under water. I've never had a flood, but I know people who have flooded their homes, but almost always user error. It is rare that one house to another flood. The housings are manufactured for a specific camera model and not flights. Mine cost about £ 2000 when new! that does not include ports. You need different ports depending on what lens mount – flat macro port and dome port for wide angle lenses. As I mentioned will also need a strobe flash and arm. The total cost of around £ 4.000 to 5.000. That does not include the camera and lens indeed. The most common cause of flooding is not caring for the O-rings. The smallest of sand, gravel, hair any nicks, cuts in the O-ring can cause a leak. Before each session of diving has to remove and inspect the O-rings, clean the seat ring O channel fat, and the O-rings properly again. There are O-rings in the main camera body, the ports, and flash sync cable connectors. Online dive deck and always rinse in fresh water for a while before opening it – a short-mate is not enough. Make sure to open that no water in it or electrical contacts. If the floods of the camera during a dive NOT make a dash to the surface – the risk of a curve and its probably too late in any case. If a leak is small, point the camera lens down (this will keep the water at the bottom of the harbor where you will do less damage) and an increase insurance package. If you're worried about your digital SLR wet, then I suggest you get compact and a home – they will do if there is enough reasonable shots light (not working well in low light), but the shutter lag will be more than a digital SLR.
