This is a photographer, I agree 100%, but if we talk about mid-range or entry level cameras, then prefer Canon because CMOS sensors. Sony is doing most of the components electronics and sensors to Nikon and they are all CCD and has a poor noise performance at high ISO settings then Canon. Of course they are a little cheaper in price, but in that case personally I prefer a Sony digital SLR that can be used Minolta lenses also old. So I can make a good package with affordable price then Nikon. Also on the other hand I think is one of the oldest questions you were asking 35mm SLR since it has no exact answer.
