Is anyone tech savvy when it comes to digital camera screens?
I have a Nikon Coolpix S220 camera and the screen display is completely obscured; it’s just vertical blurry lines. You can’t see what you’re doing. However, the camera still takes pictures just fine. There is no visible screen damage (no cracks or anything). We don’t know what’s wrong with it. Our local camera repair shop said the base repair fee starts at $130 and that they sell an exact replacement for our camera for $110. Is it really that expensive to repair an LCD screen and should we get a new camera, or is there a less expensive way? I hate to just trash this camera if I don’t have to. In every other way, it’s just fine. It’s just the screen display that is malfunctioning. Any advice would be great!
Unfortunately you are at their mercy if the camera is not under warranty. When it comes to electronics, it normally costs more to repair it than it does to replace it.
You could try to file a claim on your renter/home owners insurance…more than likely though, they will compare repair cost to new price and you still wind up with a new camera (and a claim on your insurance).
If it makes you feel any better, I was quoted $180 for a cleaning/inspection/timing adjustment on one of my DSLRs.
