Compact Flash care compatibility?

I have a Nikon Coolpix 5700 and have been using a 1 GB flash card in it. I just purchased a 4 GB flash card and when I try to format it, I get and “Out of Memory” Error. Is this an size limitation on the camera itself or is there an issue with the Compact Flash?

I don’t believe this camera will use COMPACT FLASH or MICRODRIVES greater than 1GB in size.

    2Gig CF cards would work but more than 2Gig CF cards are incompatible.
