My cable for my nikon coolpix l20 will not fit in the camera?

Is there some trick to this cable, or gave me the wrong one?

It is either the wrong or damaged. Look carefully at the end and make sure it is exactly the same way as in the camera. Make sure no small things leave the wrong way or bent. If you see something that looks like badly dubbed, carefully back the right way with a stick.
