Is the Nikon Coolpix P90 a good camera?

I want something that will have better picture quality than my old Fujifilm FinePix S5000 has been drinking, but I want something on the price of $ 500. What I read about it has been good but some sample pictures a bit grainy appearance. Is this because 24x zoom to? Overall, is this a decent camera?
