On applying any kind of effect in camera: DO NOT! Imagine if you just take the best picture I ever took – probably would take all its glory, right? Always set the camera larger, better quality (and color). In this way, start with the best picture possible for the original. Then make a copy and edit to your hearts content. You have better control over any issue in the computer, even something as simple as B & W will look much better when processed correctly, rather than behind closed doors. You can do all sorts of things to PLUS you get to keep the original. If you're determined to ignore this advice and do it behind closed doors, however, read the manual and / or manufacturer's website and / or the camera menu.
