Need information on a handgrip of a Nikon D40?

I am looking to buy a grip for my Nikon D40, but not sure exactly how it works. Do I have to carry the charger I have for the lithium ion battery? or I have to put the batteries in the power grip? that I'm seeing right now is … Http://zeikos.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=113 So I just want to know if I have to buy extra batteries to make it work or I can not handle power load directly.
