Nikon D40 Review
The Nikon D40 is my first digital SLR. For the price, is a great starter camera. I've had mine for about two years and I have places I visit a. The D40 is small compared with other digital SLRs, therefore, is an ideal camera for traveling. The kit lens works wonderful to travel also. Although it is not TV, is wide enough for some cool shots.
I also bought a 50mm 1.8 f / stop lens to supplement my D40. Here is where the D40 lacks features. It has an autofocus motor in the body . I have the manual approach particular target, which could be a nuisance sometimes.
The camera has lasted me quite some time and think he can still handle much more. I am very happy with my purchase. If you want a starter DSLR the D40 is the perfect camera for you. If you are exchanging lenses with this camera is not recommended because the lack of an autofocus motor in the body.
I professionally images using large, "better" cameras, but I am still (After three years) with my D40 all the time. My combination of lenses D40 + 18-200VR is my life in my car all the time, ready to go "kit. Yields low light is superb, especially considering it is a 2006-era camera. No, not as good as a D300s, D90, or a FX sensor camera, but it costs a fraction of the same.
Of all the cameras I have, the D40 makes the best JPEG directly from the camera. If I know I need a shot in the field that I will not be able to take back to the office and run through my usual post processing in Lightroom, then I reach the D40, despite having thousands of dollars of other cameras at my disposal. It's that good.
Another great feature is missing even my body is pro 1/500th flash sync. This is useful for oi sunny days when you have to pull at noon and the need for fill flash to avoid dark shadows under the subjects' eyes. Even a D300s tops out at 1/250th (1/320th with an external flash).
I can not recommend this body enough for anyone interested in photography, either as a first SLR or a "backing" of the body. Including 18-55 lens is excellent for its price / size, too.
