What is your opinion of the nikon d40x?
I'm thinking of buying one. Ritz Camera is offering a two lens kit with Nikon now 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S DX Zoom nikkor dx 55-200 mm Nikon ED AF-S F/4-5.6G Nikkor. Are these decent lens for the price (the full kit is $ 1000)? I'm new in photography and have passed two different point and shoot cameras in four years. I like the rapid onset and 3 fps continuous shooting. I love to shoot my children, but also enjoy landscape and wildlife. I like to zoom in so far as I can.
You should go to your camera store and try one before buying. The D40X is a camera very small – you may find it uncomfortable to hold. Naked and D80 and see what fits your grip. Another issue is the compatibility of the lens. D40X requires the use of objectives AF-S (the guy with focus motor in the lens.) You will not get autofocus with any of the dozens of Nikon lenses without this feature. This leads out the careers of many goals that you can ever want (and can be had used for good prices). Finally, in their quest for compactness, Nikon has eliminated the information window at the top of the camera. You can not ignore this, but as the owner of a D50 would not buy a camera without one. Once again, the D80 has this feature in order to be compared. As for the lens, which gives 18-70 more in the long end to an opening faster, so I'd go for that instead of the kit. The 55-200 does not get great reviews, but you may be stuck with it because there is nothing to choose from. (With the D80 you would have more choice.) What you end up getting, I'm sure you'll be very happy because all great art.
