DSLR should I buy? Nikon vs Canon Rebel D5100 T3i?

I've been looking to get a digital SLR, and all the cameras I've looked at, I have two primary considerations are the Nikon and Canon Rebel D5100 T3i. I'm looking to use for photography, and video, and I've heard mixed views about capacity of D5100 to take video. Could someone please tell me about the advantages / disadvantages of each and I'd be happier with? Thanks! PS: I am new to photography, so do not know what many of the technical terms mean.
