Why does my RAW (NEF) files taken from my nikon d7000 opened in Photoshop Elements 8?

The format may be too new for ACR open. You need to install the new Adobe Camera Raw to PE8. At some point, it is possible that the updated driver for the D7000 in ACR. Or, that will force you to get the latest version or PE.
