nikon d90 lenses compatibility
What kind of lens should I get for my D90?

I'm trying to figure out what type of lens to get for my camera. I have a Nikon D90 and currently the use of two lenses that came in the dual-lens kit. Shot mainly portrait photography and I want a good portrait lens that does not have a lot of distortion. I also want an objective that is clear. I was looking at Nikon 18-200mm, it would be nice to have all that go without having to change lenses, but I have heard that are given a picture as sharp as the Nikon lenses normally. Is it true? As for the brand, I do not mind buying a Nikon brand is not as long as there is evidence that works well and can be endorsed. I usually stay with the Nikon only because it is the safest bet for quality and compatibility, but I know that is not always true. I prefer a zoom lens, but could be persuaded otherwise if it is a really big lens. Recommendations?

If you really want a zoom lens you give a quality comparable to a prime target for portraits, and not willing to pay high dollar for a Nikon brand lens, then take a look at Sigma and Tamrons mid-range zooms with constant f/2.8 apertures. There are lenses (respectively) the 17-70/17-50 and 24-70/28-75. The Sigma 17-70 and Tamron 17-50 are digital and have no problem in the D90, but if you go to a full frame camera will have to remember that these objectives should not be used in a full frame camera. The Sigma 24-70 and 28-75 are Full Frame Tamron lenses and works well in both film cameras and so on. Just make sure that the buying is for the Nikon mount. And Sigma and Tamron make lenses comparable to the big brands but at a fraction of the cost.
