timelapse on the Nikon D90?

I would like to create timelapse using the Nikon D90. I'm new to timelapse photography, however. I see the mc-cd 2 is labeled as a cable remote control Nikon's website. is this the same as an interval timer? distance with this card, I will be able to set the frame interval per second? or there is a D90 feautures provided in this range for me?

The MC-DC2 is equivalent to a shutter release cable that used film cameras. Press the button on the remote control to take a picture. If you are handy, you can build an interface to a microprocessor hacked by MC-DC2. If the D90 has a built- meter intervals (time lapse) function, you can use nikon camera control pro 2 software for $ 150. If one supports the D90 version, you can get that $ 70. You will need an external power source if it does lapse of time over a long period of time (few hours).
