Canon Rebel Xsi – Great camera for beginner photographers
I am a photography enthusiast who has been using the Canon Rebel XSi for six months and here are my impressions.
Weight Handling: First, the camera is really light. If someone tells you that this camera is heavy, then you probably never held a full-frame professional DSLR. The light weight makes it a joy to carry around when traveling. However, serious or professional photographers can consider that the small size and weight provide a sense of unprofessional. Furthermore, this is a minor point, but the shot makes a high pitched noise as compared to more professional cameras have a low noise discreet. This camera not too many buttons, compared to Nikon cameras. On the contrary, many of the more specialized functions that are accessed through the menus. Some People find this very annoying. I personally do not care. Also, if you have big hands, will have a difficult to maintain a comfortable grip of the camera as the grip is pretty small. If this is the case, consider purchasing the optional grip.
Image Quality: With ISO settings low image quality is very good and I've really done a professional portrait shoot using this camera. The 12 megapixels are enough to make good 8x12inch impressions, and ideal situations to contend with a good lens, proper lighting, exposure, etc, you may be able to squeeze 12x18inch impressions. At ISO 800 and above, the noise becomes noticeable and if you use heavy amounts of sharpening, images appear quite unpleasant. However, if you stay away from excess sharpness at high ISO, a small amount of noise reduction software should take care of most problems. Therefore, this camera is not very good in situations low light and moving subjects, such as parties. For this reason, I'm considering upgrading to the 5D for better noise management. And remember, the image quality has more to do with a good lens that has to do with the number of megapixels in the camera.
Kit Objective: The objective the kit is enough to handle the basic needs of photography. My personal copy of the lens is very strong in the center but that might not be so lucky. The focus ring is very small, so if you are a manual focus kind of person you want to find a new target very quickly. Also, if you want to take photos their children play sports or indoor pictures with a lot of movement of people, consider getting a goal more quickly. For sports, I recommend the 55-250 IS, 70-300IS, or if you can afford the 70-200 2.8L. For indoor and low light photography, consider increasing your kit with a primary objective, as the 50mm 1.8, 50mm 1.4, or you know about the benefits of Canon L-series objective is probably not necessary for you is any more objective.
Other Topics: The camera flash in almost completely useless for taking pictures of people in low light. Why? Since Canon's engineers decided somehow must have the flash rapid fire bursts 5-10 to help various sensors of the camera. Trust me, their songs do not appreciate his shot flash OFF like a machine gun in front of his face. I recommend an external flash like the 430EX or 420EX if you are getting this camera to solve this problem. Nikon users will not have faced with the problem.
Overall Impressions: If you just enter the world of digital SLR or you are a photo enthusiast short of money (like me), the Canon Rebel XSi is a great choice to start out with a combination of skill, your hardware is capable of achieving good results. In addition, by choosing Canon has access to the largest selection of lenses. I've had some great pictures with this camera and I plan to keep around. However, it also might want to assess the Canon 40D and Nikon D90.
