Olympus E-3 Overview
Olympus has finally announced its flagship digital SLR camera of the long awaited, the E-3. Billed as a professional pure camera, the Olympus E-3 is actually more comparable to the Olympus cameras competitors is that we have been classified as semi-pro, like the Pentax K10D, Canon 40D and Nikon D200. Whatever you call it, however, there is no doubt that the new E-3 represents a quantum leap in technology and sophistication for the Olympus SLR line.
With the E-3, Olympus introduced the first new AF sensor in years: an array of 11 points, each point consisting of double cross-type AF sensors. They are claiming this is the fastest autofocus system in the market. Combined with higher magnification 1.15x in the E-3 viewfinder, framing and focusing with the Four Thirds camera is much easier than previous Olympus models ( sigma .)
A new trigger mechanism in delivering Olympus E-3 1 / 8, 000 in second gear, and 1 / 250 flash sync, and an expected lifetime of 150,000 cycles. Mirror blackout time is also said to be low, but there are no official figures yet. Three dedicated processors handle three different functions: one to stabilize image, one for autofocus, and image processing III TruePic. A UDMA-compatible CompactFlash slot promises fast write times, and the additional xD-Picture Card adds more storage space.
image stabilization based on the body is constructed in the Olympus E-3, leveraging technology Company Supersonic Wave Drive motor to drive anti-vibration system. A separate motor drives the Supersonic Wave Filter to remove dust.
Although the Olympus E-3 10-megapixel sensor, like the E-510 and E 410 – the new sensor has been enhanced to support the faster read speed to help enable continuous shooting of five frames per second. Measurement options include 49-zone ESP metering, Spot, in the center, and a new Highlight / Shadow spot metering mode.
Another important for the Olympus E-3 is the joint rear LCD of the camera, which makes Live View mode much more valuable. It is the first design to appear on an SLR digital, that distinction goes to the Panasonic Lumix L10, Olympus Four Thirds partner, but it is an incredibly versatile design, with the ability to deal down, left, right on, even to the subject.
Built on a magnesium alloy frame feels solid Olympus E-3 and is sealed against dust and splashes. Connections include a USB 2.0 high speed, an AC power socket, video out, remote control, and an X-sync terminal. The introduction also includes five new optics and two new flashes that can be remotely controlled onboard flash Olympus E-3 into three groups. A battery grip with new works E-3 to double capacity, and duplicate key controls for vertical shooting.
The E-3 is exactly the Olympus have to enter this market "prosumer SLR which is already dominated by Canon and Nikon, Pentax, with Sony, Panasonic and begin filling the gaps. Is expected to retail for around $ 1,700, the Olympus E-3 will be launched in November 2007.
