Can I create depth of field in an automatic camera?
I have a nikon coolpix l100 digital camera wide angle. I am currently taking a course digital photography and one of my tasks is to produce a few photos that show DOF, focusing on the object, while blurring the background. I understand the concept, but my camera has no manual controls that I can find to do. While looking for a camera to buy my instructor suggested the camera over what does not I'm going to spend another 300 or more in a setting more than the camera. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate.
Change to Portrait scene mode. Zoom way extreme telephoto or close to it. Back away from the field to properly framed. Using the telephoto reduces the depth of field. Be sure to keep stable. This is how you do it with a price point and shoot. The L100 may have some other feature of it – no way to set the aperture manually?
