What is the best digital camera for under $300?
I would prefer something with high megapixels and at LEAST a 5x zoom. I have a Nikon Coolpix L6 right now, but I want a better camera and so far I like Nikon. If you know of any good, semi compact, digital cameras that are under $300 please let me know.
The Nikons can’t even zoom while shooting videos and neither can the Powershots or Easyshares mentioned. My pick would be a used Canon G7 for about $250 or less. This camera has a 6X optical zoom and sold for over $700 at one point and still has a lot of semi-pro features. It’s sensor-pixels are about 50 percent larger than the ones that currently ship with the new G10. When I see pros with an extra camera dangling around their necks for special uses, I often see these Black Canon G-series cameras. It seems to have the same role as rangefinder cameras did back in the film days. If you want new and under $300, I’d lean towards one of the Lumix superzooms.
