Photography as a hobby: Choosing a digital camera

I started photography with a Kodak movie camera later upgraded to a camera Yashik then was pushed to digital photography, I used the first Sony digital cameras, which were 2.3 mega-pixels with 16-32 MB Compact Card Flash, later upgraded to a 5-megapixel Canon with a 512 MB card. I was never a serious photographer until I bought an Olympus 710 a year ago, the photos you take with the camera I was tempted to take photography as a hobby. Unfortunately I lost my Olympus 710 in my trip to Singapore and have been replaced with an Olympus 280, which is a August 1 mega pixels. I'm looking for a digital SLR camera is on my wish list.

If you are someone like me with a digital camera of 2.1 years, then the next step would be to buy a digital SLR camera. But what? It would be very difficult to answer. There are so many products out there that offers a variety of technologies. In this blog I will try to explain the knowledge I have gained over the last 6 months trying to find the digital SLR that fits my budget and passion.

The first question is what should be the Mega-Pixel rating of my digital SLR? Few people would say 8 or 10. And if they say the latest available on the market. I need your response to another question to answer the previous question. What we do with the photos taken by digital SLR? If want to take photos of ur friends, travel, function, and after these photos on the web, e-mail to friends or for small prints and put them on the album, then a camera of 2 mega-pixel is more than enough for your needs. Entry-level digital SLR cameras start at 6 mega-pixels. So if that is everything you want to do with your photos, the number of mega-pixels of your digital SLR need not be a major concern. But if you want to print large posters, you need a higher score mega-pixel digital SLR. All SLR level inputs produce high quality photos, up to a certain size, more pixels gives you more freedom to expand further.

Which brand should go with Canon or Nikon? Are you surprised that I have used only two names? Are these the only two brands that produce digital SLR?

The answer is quite simple, these are the most popular brands and most market share, but not all cameras from Nikon and Canon are excellent. Both companies have produced some excellent and some common brands. When buying a digital SLR camera Call for quality construction. Note the number of pieces of metal and no plastic parts in the camera body. Metal parts can be replaced, while plastic parts are not replaceable. So if the damaged piece of plastic can not get a replacement, you need to get a new SLR Digital 2-3 years in the future. Then check this is the feeling of the camera in hand. You can feel the quality of the construction by holding of the hand. Quality between brands is almost the same for low-end DSLR. However, if you decide you do not need a higher end camera, you can check other brands like Sony, Olympus etc.

What features should I go?

Features may vary from the basics such as 6, 8, 10, 12 mega-pixels and automatic cleaning dust etc and advanced features such as Live-View To make matters worse each manufacturer gives a different name for the same technology. You need to do some research online before making a final decision.

I'm tempted to give the url of www.cameralabs.com which is one of the best sites I have found for camera review.

Visit this site when you are buying, also remember that when you buy a digital SLR camera you need to buy a good lens or two to complement your digital SLR.
